Robotic Surgery — Precision, Safety, and Faster Recovery
Transforming Women’s Surgery Through Innovation
Robotic-assisted surgery represents the most advanced form of minimally invasive gynaecological care.
Using the da Vinci Xi robotic system, Dr Mohamed Otify performs complex procedures with exceptional precision, safety, and control — helping women recover faster, with less pain and smaller scars.
What Is Robotic Surgery?
Robotic surgery is not performed by a robot.
It’s a surgeon-led technique in which I control every movement in real time. The robotic system translates my hand and wrist motions into micro-movements inside your body using tiny wristed instruments.
A 3-D high-definition camera provides up to ten-times magnification, offering a view of your anatomy that is far clearer than the naked eye could ever achieve.
This allows me to perform meticulous dissection and preserve surrounding structures, even in scarred or anatomically complex areas.
Why Robotic Surgery Matters
For many gynaecological procedures — including hysterectomy, endometriosis excision, lymph-node dissection, and fertility-preserving cancer surgery — robotic technology offers measurable advantages:
- Greater accuracy in removing disease while protecting healthy tissue
- Reduced blood loss and fewer complications
- Less post-operative pain and minimal scarring
- Shorter hospital stays and quicker return to normal life
- Lower risk of wound infection compared with open surgery
Ultimately, robotic surgery allows me to combine the gentleness of minimally invasive techniques with the precision of open surgery.
My Expertise and Experience
Together with my team, we have completed over 1,000 robotic gynaecological procedures by early 2025, making our programme one of the most active and experienced in the UK.
As Clinical Lead for Robotic Surgery and Gynaecological Oncology at Liverpool Women’s Hospital, I lead one of the busiest and most successful robotic programmes in the region.
Beyond my own patients, I train other consultants across the UK and Ireland in advanced robotic techniques.
My priority is always clear:
- Safe and complete cancer clearance
- Preservation of fertility where possible
- Minimal recovery time and post-operative discomfort
Every operation is planned around your diagnosis, anatomy, and personal goals — no two cases are ever identical.
Procedures Commonly Performed Robotically
- Total and radical hysterectomy
- Myomectomy (fibroid removal)
- Ovarian cystectomy
- Excision of endometriosis
- Pelvic and para-aortic lymph-node dissection
- Fertility-preserving surgery
What to Expect After Surgery
Most patients return home the same day or the following morning, with little need for strong pain relief.
I provide a clear recovery plan outlining how to care for your wounds, manage activity levels, and return safely to work, exercise, and intimacy.
Follow-up appointments ensure your recovery is smooth, supported, and fully monitored.
